Sony, makers of gaming console Playstation, is going to launch free iPhone and Android apps for Playstation likely to be at early 2011.

According to the company, the first versions of the apps will come to the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and The Netherlands, with more countries expected soon.

Deep within the USB device configuration list for the latest iOS 4.2 beta 1 is an iProd 2,1 descriptor that links to an entry for the AppleTV2,1.

The AppleTV2,1 key refers to the second hardware revision of the Apple’s digital media device which was announced at Apple’s Fall 2010 event. Not only does this identify the mystery device as the new Apple TV, it also confirms that the streaming device is powered by Apple’s mobile OS, not the propriety Mac OS X of the original Apple TV.

It is possible that iOS for the Apple TV shares the same vulnerabilities as its iPhone and iPod touch counterparts.

Assuming there is enough on-board storage available on the Apple TV, the Apple hacking community could jailbreak this device and enable support for applications.

Apple's has released iOS 4.0.2 for the iPhone and 3.2.2 for the iPad, both of which close the PDF exploit used by JailbreakMe.

That good news for those who are concerned about iOS security.

iOS to Android OS comparison, Apple has the lead by a significant margin; iOS traffic accounted for around 55% of mobile OS activity in a recent snapshot, whereas Android devices ran closer to 18% of the total.

To get an idea of OS versions, Chitika captured data on 9,020,135 devices running an iOS and 7,712,820 devices running some version of Android.
