Most iPad owners are "over-achieving selfish elites"

Dubbing iPad owners as “over-achieving selfish elites,” a new survey has revealed that those who have Apple's "magical device", are six times more likely to be wealthy, highly educated and sophisticated 30-50 year olds who value power and achievement.

The survey of 20,000 people conducted by US consumer research firm MyType also claimed that they are selfish and unkind.

MyType spokesman Tim Koelkebeck gave his unflattering appraisal of iPad owners on the company's blog after the firm released the results of the survey online.

And Koelkebeck said that 96 per cent of iPad's critics don't own an iPad, but are generally independent-minded young people who "shun conformity".

iPad Launch May Be Delayed For Some Countries.

According to engadget.com, LG, which supplies the LCD displays for the iPad is unable to keep up with the enormous demand.

“Demand (from Apple) keeps growing and we can’t meet it all. Apple may have to delay launches of the iPad for some countries due to tight component supplies and strong demand,” LG Display CEO Kwon Young-soo told reporters.

Recently, the iPad became available in Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore.

However, Apple was careful not to promise a launch date for the rest of the world, merely stating that the “iPad will roll out to many more countries later this year and Apple will announce availability and local pricing for these additional countries at a later date.” It seems now that this date could be further away than we thought.

A 15-year-old boy managed to dupe Apple Inc. by creating an iPhone application that connects to the Internet for free but it is no longer available.

To access the web through the iPhone costs around 13 pounds a month.

Nick Lee designed a application which at first glance appears to allow users to change the colour of their screen. It was charged at less than a dollar to upload from the Apple iTunes online music store.

However, the application contains a hidden code that allows people to use their iPhone as a modem and access the Internet without paying, the Telegraph reported.

Apple held a press conference last week to address the issue. Its solution to the problem: free cases for all.

Its not a big deal for the apple since, the company that made $15.7 billion last quarter alone.

Search warrant dropped against Jason Chen in Gizmodo iPhone 4 case

Good New for the Jason Chen (Gizmodo) Fans. San Mateo County officials have withdrawn a search warrant issued for an editor at Gizmodo, the tech blog that beat Apple to the punch and unveiled a prototype of the new iPhone in April.

According to court documents, the search warrant was dropped on Thursday after Gizmodo editor Jason Chen agreed to submit information kept in several electronic devices seized from his house in April.

Authorities sought the information as part of an investigation to determine if a crime was committed when Gizmodo purchased the phone - a prototype for the iPhone 4 - from Brian Hogan, who found the device after an Apple engineer left it behind in a Redwood City bar.

According to AT&T iPhone 4 Contract, no refund after 30 Days.

During the Friday Apple News Conference, Apple promise of a full refund for customers unhappy with their iPhone 4 applies for 30 days after purchase, so those who were hoping to use the announcement as a means to get out of their AT&T contracts beyond that time period are out of luck.

AT&T's normal, 30-day return policy will still apply for the iPhone 4, an AT&T spokesman said Friday. After purchasing an AT&T device and agreeing to a two-year contract, customers have 30 days in which to cancel their accounts without incurring an early termination fee, or return the iPhone 4 and switch to another AT&T handset.

The announcement comes after Apple said Friday that it will provide iPhone 4 buyers with a free bumper or case to alleviate reception issues. If users are still not happy with their smartphones, they can return the device for a "full refund" and no re-stocking fee - also within 30 days, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said at a press conference.

Last Minute Rumors about Apple's iPhone 4 Press Conference.

Speculation and rumors are doing rounds over what Apple plans to say at its anticipated iPhone 4 press conference on Friday at 10 a.m. Pacfic Time today. Apple has said only that it will discuss its newest smartphone, iPhone 4. Anticipation is that this will not be an address lauding the successes of the new device, and will instead focus on the reported problems of the iPhone 4's reception. It has been well documented that if you cover the lower part of the iPhone 4 you can experience serious cellular receptions that could result in dropped calls. Apple's problems came to a head earlier this week after Consumer Reports released a report on the iPhone 4 saying it couldn't recommend purchasing the device.

Despite the complaints and personal tales of woe about the iPhone 4's antenna issues, Apple is not expected to issue an expensive recall of the iPhone 4, according to The New York Times. The newspaper quoted a "person with direct knowledge of Apple's plans" denying that a recall is in the works, but the anonymous source didn't say anything further about what Apple's plans might be. Interestingly, however, the iPhone 4's design may have simply exposed a "longstanding weakness" in the iPhone's software, according to a "person with direct knowledge of the phone's design" who spoke with the Times.

Many US people are willing to pay $10/month for iTune Subscription.

NPD has released survey results that point to a huge interest in an iTunes subscription service, which, in 2010 language, would be called a "cloud service." NPD believes there is a market of about 8 million possible subscribers in the U.S. alone. Those subscribers indicated they would be willing to pay at least $10 per month, which would translate into the next billion-dollar opportunity for Apple.

"Between seven million and eight million iTunes users in the U.S. would have strong interest in one of the paid subscription options, according to the report. These consumers indicated a willingness to pay a minimum monthly fee of $10 -- either for streaming music or access to their personal music libraries on multiple devices," NPD said. NPD estimates that there are 50 million iTunes users in the U.S. According to NPD's music industry research, a model that offers iTunes users free access to their own music libraries would attract in the range of 13 to 15 million subscribers.

Apple buys Mapping Company Poly9.

According to French-language newspaper Le Soleil, Apple has acquired Poly9, an online mapping company based in Quebec.

The translated article reports that since the acquisition, the majority of Poly9 employees have moved from Quebec to Apple’s offices in California. As Apple Insider notes, the Poly9 website is down, although parts of the Poly9 Globe site are still accessible.

The Poly9 Globe was described as “a cross-browser, cross-platform 3D globe which does not require any download.” Think of it as a JavaScript-based 3D globe that can be manipulated with your mouse to adjust its axis and rotation points. The software then offers users statistics on their virtual locations. Basically it’s Google Earth in the browser.

Know your faith through Octopus Paul Via Apple app(Unofficial)

The uTouchLabs-developed app is called “Ask the Octopus”  and it’s available in the App Store  for the iPhone , iPod touch and iPad (though it doesn’t have a special iPad version).

It’s pretty basic. When you start it up, you see an animated octopus, and you’re asked to enter in two things to compare (Soup or salad? Paper or plastic? Jacob or Edward? We’re sure you can think of better things to compare). After you’ve picked the options, the octopus drifts to the sea floor and selects a box, just like Paul. It’s random, of course — we don’t believe this octopus has secret predictive powers, but like a Magic 8-Ball, it’s fun to play with.

Apple Releases iOS 4.0.1 to Fix iPhone 4 Reception Flaw.

With the release of iOS 4.0.1, the first update to the device’s operating system, which aims to fix the most talked about flaw.

When the iPhone 4 reception issue came to light, Apple promised a software fix to the formula it uses to calculate signal strength. Although the reception issue has been identified as a hardware problem since then, we still expected Apple to roll out the software fix.

According to Apple, iOS 4.0.1 only has one change: It “improves the formula to determine how many bars of signal strength to display.” Because it addresses an issue inherent only to phones, iOS 4.0.1 is only available for the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and iPhone 4.

Surprise News conference on 16 July by Apple Inc related to iPhone 4 Flaws.

Apple has called a surprise news conference on 16 July at 1800 (BST) to talk about the iPhone 4 as the clamour for the company to resolve antenna problems with the new device intensified.

The company has refused to give details about whether the event will address reception problems that some users have reported with the phone, launched just last month.

Apple has faced mounting criticism from analysts and consumers over its handling of the issue.

Industry watchers said the firm was in danger of damaging its "rock star" reputation over how poorly it had dealt with what would normally be a minor problem.

Apple store in Shanghai is awesome piece of Art.

Hundreds of people lined up Saturday to be among the first to enter Apple Inc.'s newest store in China.

The 16,000-square-foot (1,500-square-meter) underground space in Shanghai, China's wealthiest city, marks the start of a major retail expansion in a country where the company so far has had a relatively meager presence.

Apple—which has one other Chinese store, in Beijing—has said it plans to open 25 stores in China by the end of next year, including a second store in Shanghai.

Apple shares on slide as iPhone 4 as media is going Gaga over its defects.

(Reuters) - Shares of Apple Inc slid more than 4 percent on Tuesday after a poor review for its iPhone 4 from an influential consumer guide underpinned mounting complaints about the hot-selling device's reception and spurred speculation about a product recall.

Consumer Reports said on Monday it could not recommend the iPhone 4 -- which sold 1.7 million units worldwide in its first three days -- after its tests confirmed concerns about signal loss when the device is held in a certain way.

That report spurred widespread discussion on Tuesday, including on popular tech site Cnet and multiple blogs, about the possibility of an iPhone 4 recall: an unheard-of event for a company lauded by investors and tech aficionados for its marketing savvy and product quality.

An iPhone app that lets you deposit Check Via iPhone.

Earlier this month, JPMorgan Chase updated its iPhone app to allow customers to electronically deposit checks. To make a deposit, customers photograph the front and back of the check with the phone's built-in camera, then transmit the image to their account.

USAA has offered a deposit app since last August. Customers have used it to deposit 1.5 million checks worth more than $900 million, spokesman Paul Berry says.

Bank of America has tested a mobile deposit app but hasn't set a launch date, spokeswoman Tara Burke says.

We Can’t Recommend iPhone 4: Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports performed lab tests on the iPhone 4 and determined that the phone’s alleged antenna problem is completely legit. As a result, the organization declined to recommend the device, suggesting that consumers buy the older 3GS model instead.

The steel bands that run around the phone’s edges function as antennae, and Apple touted this as a selling point. Unfortunately, consumers discovered a design flaw immediately after the phone launched. When you cover up a small gap between two of the bands on the corner of the phone, you experience dramatic signal loss.

As you’ll see in the video above, Consumer Reports tested AT&T carrier signals on the phone using lab equipment and determined that touching that spot on the phone can cause enough signal loss to drop a call. It also confirmed that this is not just an issue where the phone’s software is inaccurately reporting signal strength. Previous tests have had similar results.
